I think it is related to the citrus industry. I think the horse are clearing rubble so that they can begin plowing and planting citrus trees over by Orange grove boulevard.
I'm not old enuf to have been around, so I can only come up with an uneducated guess: clearing the way to build either the Ambassador Auditorium or the Mayor's city provided parsonage aka mansion.
It appears to be the Arroyo and the Rose Bowl is under construction.
ReplyDeleteJM beat me to it. Gotta be the Rose Bowl's early beginnings.

ReplyDeleteOh man, do I have to get up at 5 a.m. to play this? Ok, here's the hail mary: clearing the space for the Raymond Hotel.
ReplyDeleteI've got a bridge I can sell you.
ReplyDeleteDevils Gate dam

ReplyDeleteThey did use horses to haul dirt when building the Rose Bowl, so that's my guess, too!
ReplyDeleteDefinately the Rose Bowl. Next time I'm waking up at 5am on Tuesday
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: I'm confused. Did I name the picture?
ReplyDeleteOoh, Vannia: 5 a.m. is pretty early. Are you sure you want to compete with this crazy crowd? Good luck!
