My first guess was the Colorado Street bridge being built, but it looks like another bridge in the background, so instead I'm going to say it the freeway bridge being built next to the Colorado bridge.
That is an AWESOME photo. I'm hoping there is more when the mystery is solved later this week. Thanks for sharing these wonderful images with us, PIO!
Or it's the La Loma bridge being built with the Colorado Street bridge in the background.
My guess is the 210 FW being built through the Arroyo back in the 1950's.
Tammy and Cafe have it; it's the 210 across the Arroyo. I'd know those arches anywhere. I've spent a lot of time under there.

Ah yes, I remember it well... It is definitely the 134 Freeway Bridge which originally did not go very far. It was exciting to be able to get to the treasures of Eagle Rock more quickly, like the miniature golf, Bob's, Pillar's (the original discount clothing store) and the Basket Bazaar. My Arroyo Seco Elementary classmates watched the construction with awe! Thanks for the memories...
I always seem to ring in late to these things, but of course i concur with the others it has to be colorado street bridge; but it is hard for me to believe it is the 134 bridge over the arroyo. the age/look of the photo looks older than the freeway era to me. could it be the bridge in the background (the one throwing us all off) is no longer with us? making it the colorado street bridge in the forefront. fab pic, though.
I say it's the 134 freeway bridge under construction and I claim my prize (that's an English TV joke). It's always hard to know where the 210 ends and the 134 starts, anyone know? I can't believe they were planning to knock down the Colorado Street Bridge once this one was finished.
Tammy and Wendy C. got it right. Pasadena Chamber didn't lead the charge to raise money for this one like we did for the bridge in the background.

Leave it to Wendy Cobleigh - she knows her Pasadena history! Looks like we're standing on the east bank, to the west of the Colorado & Orange Grove intersection. I too remember Pillar's and the miniature golf in Eagle Rock. But I also remember the old windmill that Alexander Calder , Sr., lived in, just northeast of this intersection - wasn't it was a part of Carmelita Park, now the 134/210 Freeway.
